Last month, I reached a deeply meaningful milestone on my personal journey. I completed my Reiki Level 2 training, becoming a certified Reiki practitioner. 🌿

I began exploring Reiki two years ago during a time when I felt the need to go inward, to reconnect with myself on a deeper level. At the time, I did it purely for personal healing, I never imagined it would slowly shift the way I approach photography, or how I hold space for the people I photograph. But it has, in ways that feel both subtle and powerful.

As a portrait photographer, I’ve always been fascinated by what happens when a woman feels truly seen – not just through a lens, but with presence, softness, and care. We often carry layers of tension, fear, self-judgment, or the pressure to perform. What if, instead of just posing, we could begin with a moment of stillness? A way to ground ourselves, to return to the body, and invite our full selves to be part of the process?

That’s where Reiki, breathwork, and somatic movement come in.

What is Reiki? 

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive form of energy healing that originated in Japan. The word Reiki means “universal life force energy” – the same energy that flows through all living beings. In a Reiki session, the practitioner becomes a channel for this healing energy, allowing it to flow into the recipient’s body through light touch or even at a distance (Reiki can also be practiced remotely).

This energy supports the body’s natural ability to relax, release, and heal – physically, emotionally, and energetically. It’s not about “fixing” anything. Instead, Reiki helps to rebalance your energy system, creating space for deeper presence, clarity, and peace.

From Healing Myself to Holding Space for Others

After completing Reiki Level 1, I began to notice subtle shifts – not only in myself, but in the way I connected with others. It wasn’t long before I started dreaming of gently integrating this energy work into my photography.

One session that stands out vividly was with Devika, a yoga teacher I photographed on the beach in my hometown (photos in this blog). Before we even picked up the camera, we exchanged a few minutes of Reiki and deeply connected heart to heart.

That short ritual – grounding our energy, softening our breath – completely changed the tone of the shoot. It wasn’t just a photoshoot anymore… it became a sacred experience. The images we created felt infused with that energetic connection. Something deeper came through and you can easily feel it looking at these photos.

That’s when I knew: I wanted to explore this further. I wanted to create Reiki-infused portrait sessions – not just about how you look, but how you feel. A space where your essence can rise to the surface gently and naturally.

What a Reiki Portrait Session Could Look Like

This offering is still evolving, but here’s what I imagine for a Reiki portrait experience:

We begin with breath. Gentle breathing, grounding, and soft movement to arrive in your body and shake off the noise of the outside world.

A short Reiki session follows, where you receive healing energy through light touch (or even without touch, depending on your comfort). This helps calm your nervous system, open your heart, and connect to your essence. No need to do anything – just receive.

Then, the photography begins. But instead of stiff poses, we explore moments of presence and embodiment. You might move freely, stretch, meditate, or simply be – whatever feels most authentic in the moment.

The result? Portraits that don’t just show your face – they reflect your energy. They hold the softness of who you truly are. They capture your light, your aura, not just your image.

A New Chapter Begins

I’m still on this journey of integrating healing and art, and I’m taking it one step at a time. But this moment – becoming a Reiki practitioner – marks the beginning of something that’s been brewing in my heart for a long time.

This is for the women who are awakening. The ones who are craving something deeper. The ones who don’t just want a pretty photo… they want to be seen in their truth, softness, power, and wholeness.
